How do I apply for a fast tracked Global Talent visa? (updated: 20 May 2024)

global talent scheme

On 4 November 2019, the Global Talent Independent (GTI) program was officially launched to provide a streamlined, priority pathway for highly skilled and talent individuals to obtain Australian permanent residency.

This program is another layer of the “Global Talent” initiative that the Department of Home Affairs (Department) have rolled out to support innovation in Australia, which joins the renamed “Global Talent – Employer Sponsored” (GTES) scheme. You can read a general summary of these two schemes here.

As part of the 2024/25 federal budget, the Australian government announced that while there will still be 4,000 spots for this program, it will be replaced by the “National Innovation” visa. Please see further information about this visa here.

What is the Global Talent – Independent program?

The GTI program is designed to attract skilled migrants at the top of specific key sectors to Australia. It operates through an additional layer on top of an existing visa – being the Global Talent (Subclass 858) visa (discussed further below).

The GTI program involves the Department taking on a more active role by engaging “Global Talent Officers” (GTO) in key locations overseas to invite targeted individuals to apply for an Australian visa. GTOs will work with countries in their regions and attend key events/expos to promote this program.

Individuals interested in this program, should submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) with the Department of Home Affairs (Department) to be invited to apply for this visa. A successful candidate will receive a unique identifier and be invited to apply for a Global Talent visa. For the:

  • 2019/20 migration programme year – there were 5,000 spots;
  • 2020/21 migration programme year – there were 15,000 spots;
  • 2021/22 migration programme year – there were 15,000 spots;
  • 2022/23 migration program year – there were 5,000 spots;
  • 2023/24 migration program year – there are 5,000 spots; and
  • 2024/25 migration program year – there will be 4,000 spots for it’s final year (see here) before being replaced by the “National Innovation” visa.

In particular, the Department aim to target individuals with profiles relevant to the following 10 sectors (set out in Direction 89) (see below).

The Department are also looking to target certain student cohorts with research that is internationally recognised and relevant to those targeted industries, including those who have recently (in the last 3 years) completed a PhD.

What is a Global Talent visa?

The Global Talent visa aims to attract individuals who have an “internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement” in either a profession, sport, the arts, or academia and research. The GTI program utilises the “profession” or “academic and research” aspects of this visa.

It also requires the applicant to still be prominent in the area, be an asset to the Australian community, demonstrate that they’d have no difficulty in obtaining employment (or being established independently) in the area, and be nominated by either an Australian individual or organisation with a national reputation in the area.

You can read more about the Global Talent visa here.

Am I eligible under this program?

Broadly speaking, to be eligible under this program, a candidate must:

  • fit under one of the 10 targeted sectors outlined above; and
  • have an “internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement” in their field, and either:
    • be able to attract a salary equivalent to the Fair Work High Income Threshold (FWHIT), currently AUD $175,000; or
    • have completed their PhD in the past 3 years (degree conferred).

If you do not satisfy the above, you would not be eligible under this program. Please note that being eligible is not necessarily the same as being likely to receive an invitation given the highly competitive nature of the program, which has increased due to the growing popularity and awareness as well as the reduce allocations.

What are the 10 target sectors?

Though we are not aware of any official definition of the 10 target sectors, Direction 89 represents a departure from the original 7 target sectors which largely related to “Tech”. This broadening moves away from that “Tech” emphasis and more into the Department’s other priority sectors.

Examples of relevant skill sets to the target sectors include the following:

Resources

Engineering, Geology, Metallurgy, Waste Management, Energy Saving Technology, Extraction and Processing

Agri-food and AgTech

Seed technology, nanomaterials, biofuels, supply chain and packaging, wearable technologies

Energy

Clean energy, resource robotics, computational metallurgy, geostatistics, beneficiation, battery / energy storage

Health Industries

Medical and biomedical technology, pharmaceutical and vaccine research and development, IT biochemistry, digital health, implantables and wearable devices, genomics

Defence, Advanced Manufacturing and Space

Astrodynamics, satellite systems, rocket and avionics systems, urban mobility, military equipment acquisition and sustainment, automation and robotics, nano-manufacturing, sustainable manufacturing and life-cycle engineering

Circular Economy

Bioenergy, sustainable production, recycling, waste treatment, waste to energy technology, emissions technology, ecologically sustainable manufacturing

DigiTech

Quantum computing, cyber sciences, cyber security, artificial intelligence, blockchain, IoT, big data, disruptive technologies, smart cities, machine learning, network engineering, cloud computing

Infrastructure

Water infrastructure, Energy infrastructure, regional development

Tourism

Travel and tourism infrastructure

Financial Services and FinTech

Neobanking, payment systems, wealth and regtech, blockchain

Education

Cutting edge skills in emerging fields of the industry, developing advanced educational systems and curricula, improving the education infrastructure in Australia, digital data and eResearch platforms

You can read more about relevant skill sets to these target sectors and specialisations that the Department aim to prioritise here.

How do I apply?

To access one of the 5,000 positions under the GTI for priority processing, there are three steps:

  1. the unique identifier and code issued by the Department
  2. a nomination and
  3. the Global Talent visa application itself.

Presently, to be considered under the GTI program, you would need to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) here directly to the Department. You will need to have a nominator at this time, you can read some information about the Form 1000 and the nomination process here.

In our view, your GTI EOI should submit a covering letter, a CV, and evidence of your claimed achievements.

Once the referral has been assessed, the Department would email the candidate a unique identifier number and code to make the Global Talent visa application and be considered under the GTI provisions.

Although the application form may now be completed online, the Form 1000 (which has to be completed by the nominator) is still a paper-based form that then needs to be scanned and uploaded.

Your nominator must complete this form, and they must be an:

    • Australian Citizen/PR/eligible NZ Citizen; or
    • Australian organisation

who has a “national reputation” in relation to the area.

The nomination process is basically an endorsement of your skills, rather than a “sponsorship” with attached obligations (other than to tell the truth of course). You can read more about the nomination and the Form 1000 requirements here.

    We recommend:

    • reviewing your nominator profile to ensure that they have a “national reputation” before asking them to assist;
    • sending the Form 1000 to your nominator when you first ask them to assist to ensure they’re comfortable with what’s on the form.

Both of these steps are to save an awkward conversation down the line.

The key criteria is being able to demonstrate that you have an “internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement” in your field. This is to distinguish “ordinary” individuals.

The successful individuals with whom Hannan Tew Lawyers have advised and assisted have: received awards/media coverage of their work, made publications (general/academic), hold patents, spoken at conferences, and/or have held senior positions at international companies.

The visa applicant must also be of good health and character, which means that police clearances and health examinations must be provided/undertaken.

    How much does it cost?

The government lodgement fees for this application are:

    Primary ApplicantEssential

    $ 4,840

    exc surcharges

    >18 dependent

    $ 2,425

How long will it take to receive an outcome on my EOI?

The pathway of obtaining priority processing via GTO referral has ceased. The Department’s website for the GTI program no longer lists GTO email addresses, and specifically states that “Departmental officers (formerly known as Global Talent Officers) no longer provide individual support to candidates”.

Practically, this means where it was previously possible to obtain EOI outcomes in 1 month or less for high profile candidates, all applicants will now be subject to “standard” processing times. As at the time of writing, the Department are currently processing EOIs in about 3-6 months.

The Department have indicated that certain individuals who are endorsed by “Whole of Government partners” may be supported in exceptional cases.

What is the impact of Direction 100?

On 28 October 2022, the Department issued Direction No. 100 which outlines the order of consideration of skilled visas, including Global Talent visas (see here).

This sets out the order of priority for certain visas, and gives the highest priority to applications in relation to a healthcare or teaching occupation.

Within the list of priority, it also gives the highest priority to visa applications:

    1. where the primary applicant is located outside Australia at the time the visa application is made; and
    2. made by Hong Kong nationals.

How can we engage Hannan Tew Lawyers?

There are two ways to engage us, there are routes that can be taken:

    1. undertake an initial consultation to discuss your circumstances, and for us to provide advice and options. A fee of $330-440 is applicable which consist of a 1 hour discussion followed by written advice. This is if you want to discuss your circumstances further, get an idea as to process, confirm eligibility, and ask any other questions you may have. You can view our availability and book in a time convenience for you here; or
    2. if you are confident about eligibility and do not want the consultation and advice, we can go ahead and prepare a GTI EOI application for you for $5,500. However, if we later found that you were not eligible for the visa, we would only be able to refund that amount less the time already spent on your matter.

What is the process once we engage you?

In the first instance, we would need to send over our cost agreement (CA) outlining our fees, scope of services and terms and conditions of engagement for your review.

If you were happy with the contents, we would ask that you sign the document and deposit the professional fees upfront into our trust account. Your funds would remain in trust until your GTI EOI was lodged after which we’d issue an invoice and move the funds from trust in payment of our invoice.

Upon receipt of the signed CA and deposit, we would send a template statement, reference letters and a list of documentation required. A significant part of our services involve the drafting of the cover letter which we’d send for your review, and work together to finalise . We also review all documentation (including reference letters prior to signature), and make suggestions of what documents to include or not include.

We submit the GTI EOI as your appointed legal representatives and all correspondence related to your GTI EOI should be directed to us (with which we would of course update you).

    Common mistakes?

Having spoken to hundreds of prospective applicants and assisted numerous individuals through both the GTI Expression of Interest (EOI) and the Global Talent visa application itself, you can read about some of the most common mistakes we have found by EOI applicants here.

    Frequently asked Questions

Hannan Tew Lawyers have had a significant amount of queries from individuals both at EOI and at visa application stage. This means that we’ve noticed a trend of common queries, which we’re happy to share with you.

What were the 14 November 2020 changes to the Global Talent visa?

On 14 November 2020, the Department passed legislation that removed the offshore Subclass 124 visa and made some major amendments to the onshore Global Talent Subclass 858 visa application. You can read a summary of these changes here.

What were the 20 January 2021 changes to the GTI program and EOI eligibility?

From 20 January 2021, Bachelor (with Honours) and Masters graduates are no longer eligible for invitation to the GTI program on the basis of those qualifications alone. This replaces older guidelines which considered applicants who:
    1. were recent Masters or Honours graduates (who completed their studies in the last 3 years);
    2. had obtained a WAM of at last 80% or more; and
    3. the course was directly related to the relevant target sector.

These individuals were also considered to have the ability to attract the Fair Work High Income Threshold (FWHIT) requirements.

The Department have advised that the new changes apply “regardless of the date you submitted your EOI”, meaning it applies to existing EOIs which have already been submitted.

That is not to say that recent Masters or Bachelors (Honours) graduates should not apply, but that they must also demonstrate international recognition outside of their academic achievements in order to receive an invitation.

Note that candidates in the above cohort who received an invitation reference identifier prior to 20 January 2021 will still be eligible to lodge an application for a Distinguished Talent (subclass 858) visa with priority processing.

What were the 27 February 2021 changes to the Global Talent visa?

On 27 February 2021, the Distinguished Talent visa was renamed the Global Talent visa.  The Subclass and criteria remained the same.

I am a PhD Graduate, am I likely to be invited?

Our experience has been that the Department have a strong preference for PhD graduates who:
    • are undertaking research that is highly novel and/or can be commercialised; and/or
    • have demonstrated employability (i.e. securing a postdoctoral position and/or a job in the industry).

As a PhD graduate the strength of your application lies in your research quality. Having secured employment is strong evidence that your research is valued as either further funding is flowing to support that research, or a commercial business is seeking to apply your research. .

Do I get an acknowledgement after submitting my EOI?

Once you select “Submit”, an acknowledgement message will be displayed. You will not receive an email confirming that your EOI has been received. The Department will be in contact to either request further information/documents from you, or issue you a unique identifier.

How long does it take to get a response from my EOI?

See the section above – the general answer is that it varies and unfortunately, the Department do not publish their processing times. Presently, we’ve been receiving outcomes in about 3 months.

Does the Department advise me if my EOI is unsuccessful?

The Department have indicated that they will advise EOI applicants whether they were successful or not. Please see our interview with a Global Talent Officer on this point here. This has also been our experience.

What if I don’t meet one of the 10 targeted sectors?

The GTI program is specifically to target people in those sectors. If you clearly do not meet these sectors, then this program is not for you. However, there are many instances where an individual may meet one of these sectors without realising it. Feel free to reach out to us if you think you that you may be a candidate but are unsure as to whether you meet one of the sectors.

How do I know if I am a “distinguished talent”?

This is quite a subjective assessment. Consider whether you have had significant academic or professional accomplishments that are not in the “ordinary” course, look at what we’ve described above as successful candidates who have received EOIs. Feel free to reach out to us if you think you may be such a candidate, but are unsure as to whether you might qualify.

How do I find a nominator?

This is the most common question we receive from offshore EOI applicants and the answer depends on your personal circumstances. It could be your employer, an industry colleague, an academic colleague, or even an industry body. Various skills assessing authorities also now offer this service including the ACS, Engineers Australia, Institute of Managers and Leaders, and the Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists. You can apply for these before submitting your EOI.

Do you assist with finding a nominator?

Where engaged to assist with the GTI EOI or Global Talent visa, we provide recommendations based on an individual’s profile. However, we do not source a nominator for you.

What are the requirements for the nominator?

The criteria to be a nominator is set out above and we have  written an article that helps explains what this means for them here. The nominator will need to provide the Form 1000 and some evidence to demonstrate that they have a “national reputation” in the same field as you.

If I receive a unique identifier, does this guarantee that my Distinguished Talent visa application will be granted?

No, it does not. You still need to meet all the criteria for grant of the actual visa, including health and character clearances.

How long is the processing time for the Global Talent visa itself?

Most applications are finalised in 9-12 months, largely depending on how complete the application is (i.e. whether documents were missing) and availability to undertake health examinations.

I’ve received a unique identifier, but I have family members (spouse/partner, children) outside Australia. What do I do?

On 14 November 2020, the Department merged both the offshore (Subclass 124) and onshore (Subclass 858) Distinguished Talent visas into one visa subclass – the Subclass 858 visa. Amendments were made such that applicants may be either inside or outside of Australia at time of lodgement. This was later renamed the Global Talent visa.

I’m in Australia as the holder of a Bridging Visa pending an outcome on a further substantive visa. Can I apply for the Global Talent visa?

Yes. On 14 November 2020, the Department merged both the offshore (Subclass 124) and onshore (Subclass 858) Distinguished Talent visas into one visa subclass – the Subclass 858 visa (and later named the Global Talent visa). These changes also now allow applicants to apply onshore so long as they hold either a substantive visa, or a Bridging Visa A, B, or C.

What is the impact of Direction No. 89 and the target sectors?

On 17 December 2020, the Department issued Direction No. 89 which outlines the order of consideration of the Global Talent visa.  Relevantly, it listed out revised target sectors. You can read a summary of the differences between the old target sectors (largely focused on tech) and the new, existing target 10 target sectors here.

Will the government extend the Global Talent Independent program?

The Department has set 4,000 positions for the 2024/25 migration program year, indicating that this is the last year before it is replaced with the “National Innovation” visa. This number represents a slight decrease from 5,000 spots the year before, confirming their intention to leave this as a “niche” pathway for very strong candidates. The program is in high demand, so we encourage eligible applicants to apply as soon as possible to take advantage of the positions.

    Conclusion

With immigration uncertainty in other countries, the Global Talent Independent program is a positive initiative to try and attract some of the best and brightest talent from around the world.

Hannan Tew Lawyers have had a significant amount of enquiries about the GTI program, and have been at the forefront of this program since conception (see discussion comments below for example).

We have been interviewed by various media outlets including ITnews, and SBS regarding our insights and views on the GTI program, and on our insights on immigration more broadly which can be read here. We have also delivered sold out CPD sessions via industry bodies to educate other Migration Agents / Lawyers on this program.

With significant experience advising the tech and start-up industries in Australia, we have the knowledge and experience to understand your profile and convey the importance of your research, experience and skill sets to the Department to improve your prospects of receiving an invitation and/or the visa itself.

Please feel free to contact us by email at [email protected] or phone +61 3 9016 0484 if you have further comments or would like some guidance.

      Dear Admin,

Do you know if the Department has started evaluating the applications who submitted their EOI on July 2020?

    • Isha Bansal says:

      Hi Admin,
I completed masters in Data Science in July 2020.
I have been working as a data analyst for more than 1.5 years on part-time basis first and then full time just after completing my studies. I’m a member of Golden Key International Honour Society that recognises top 15% of students in each discipline. Currently I’m working at Anz Bank with an annual salary of 110,000 AUD. I’ve got 3 Australian Citizens who have more than 15 years of experience in the same field and are leaders in well known IT companies here in Australia. They’re ready to write me a good recommendation and nomination letter. Also, I’ve done multiple paid professional trainings from Microsoft and passed certifications which are highly sought after in my domain. What do you think about my profile? Can you please provide your valuable feedback. Thanks

      • admin says:

        Hi Isha,
At first glance, Looks like you don’t meet the salary requirement (unless you completed a PhD).
Feel free to get in touch with us at [email protected] if you’d like an assessment for the GTI and other visa options.
        Kind regards,

          Hi Hannan,

I have a masters degree which is in health industry sector (high rank grade within the last 3 years). I am currently a second year PhD student in Australia. I have 39 international publications. I have presented my work in international meetings/conferences. I am a cofounder and director of an regional branch of an international society. In the university where I am currently doing my PhD, I am now employed as a casual tutoring staff for medical students which is paid. I have applied EOI in late July , but haven’t heard a response yet. I have been nominated by a university supervisor in my field who is well known.

How you evaluate my chance of being invited.

          Thank you
          Regards,

            Hi Bel,
Sounds like you have prospects, it could simply be a matter of patience due to the backload.
            Good luck!
            Kind regards,
            Hannan Tew

    • Yankie says:

Hi Hannan, what if I submit my EOI with Form 1000? Do you think I will get higher chance of being invited than just submitting EOI? Thanks.

      Yankie

      • admin says:

        Hi Yankie,
Form 1000’s aren’t necessary at EOI stage, and we’ve had many invitations without them. However, if you can get the Form 1000 completed it doesn’t hurt to include it (it is something that demonstrates your recognition, particularly if it’s from an organisation / individual who is especially reputed).
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

      Hello,

I applied in the Data science stream in early November. Since then, I’ve had a paper published in the 2nd most reputed journal in the world and have had a story published on my research in an international newspaper with my quotes in it. Do you think it is worth updating the department about these developments? Also, any idea how long it might take to get a reply.

      Thank you

      • admin says:

        HI Vikas,
Yes we’d probably update the Department with achievements like that.
We expect processing to be 6 to 7 months at this stage.
        Good luck!
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

      Hi, Admin,
Do you have any idea about how many cases in June that haven’t been processed?

      • admin says:

        Hi Nick,
Anecdotally from our case load we’re getting invitations from about mid to late June.
        Kind regards,

    • Karim says:

      Hi Hannan,
I submitted my EOI on 19 June 2020 (onshore, MedTech). Yesterday the GTI office asked me to submit my current employment, although I did not input any information about my employment while I applied for GTI, just attached my PhD degree (graduated April 2020). I currently working as a casual (income less than Fair Work High Income Threshold) other than MedTech. I only have my previous PhD and Master’s scholarship letter, experience letter as a university teacher from overseas, journal articles and other academic achievements. I am not sure how to respond them in this situation.

Any idea and suggestion would be appreciated.

      • admin says:

        Hi Karim,
Though it’s unlikely they are worried about the FWHIT, they are probably looking for evidence about your employability in Australia so you should make some submissions in relation to that.
Feel free to contact us at [email protected] if you’d like our assistance.
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

    • Helen says:

      Hi Hannan,
I submitted my EOI in mid-June 2020 (onshore, MedTech). Recently the GTI office asked me to submit additional information including my own statement indicating the importance of my research, my current employment, recent payslip, achievements etc. My problem is that since I graduated with a PhD in April 2020, I haven’t done any research-related work(It’s difficult to find a position in Australia). Now I am about to start a new position as a post-doctoral researcher in my home country(I am offshore now). But the offer letter is not ready yet(I doubt it will be ready in 2 weeks). Therefore, I only have my previous PhD and Master’s scholarship letter, 3 non-first author journal articles and three conferences. I need to reply in 2 weeks, and I appreciate any idea and suggestions in the response that could favour my application.
      Thank you very much!

      • admin says:

        Hi Helen,
It’s great to see you are being processed! These are the sorts of issues we deal with in the original EOI application, but can still be dealt with in the response.

      Hi,
What’re the criteria for the selection of High achievement? For example. I do hold a 2 year Master Degree in MIS ( Management Information System ) from WA and recognized as a top 5% performer in uni. Will it helpful to apply for this under “Quantum Information, Advanced Digital, Data Science and ICT”?

      • admin says:

        Hi Prakash,
That’s one factor to recognition, but not the only aspect.
Also note that the sector names have been updated. That old sector you refer to would mostly align to “DigiTech”.
Feel free to get in touch with us at [email protected] if you’d like to discuss further.

      Hello,

I just realized that the new sectors do not include data science anymore. Does that mean that if I applied in the data science sector, my application will now be rejected?

      • admin says:

        Hi Vikas,
Most likely not as Data Science is usually an enabling aspect of the other sectors (and perhaps in this undefined concept of “DigiTech”).
We have assisted some of our clients to provide a simple update to the Department clarifying how you fit into the new sectors.
Feel free to do this yourself, or get in touch with us at [email protected] if you’d like our assistance.
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

I am a PhD candidate (in the last six months) and I have submitted an EOI at end of September 2020? Is there any possibility of inviting me based on my profile? Please advise?
      My Profile is:

Publication: 5 in Journals and 6 in conferences
Awards: PhD Scholarship/Best Research Paper Award/ senate award for high-quality research

      • admin says:

        Hi Sina,
Sure – based on a cursory glance you do have some prospects.
Just make sure you have supporting evidence and address the criteria.
        Good luck!

    • ANE says:

I sent my EOI on 30th June 2020 and still waiting for an invitation. My three years of completing PhD will be over at the mid of the next month. if I did not get an invitation before that date will they reject me based on that? Because I have applied within the three year period, will they consider me? Do I write them and let them know my issue and kindly ask for a decision? Please advise me. Thanks

      • Dan says:

        Hi ANE,

I am on 30 June as well, still waiting.
I learnt from the Expat forum that there is someone who received invitation today. His EOI was on 24 June. So hope yours will be within 3 years from your PhD.

        Fingers crossed.

      • admin says:

        Hi Anne,
Our understanding from discussions with case officers is that they’ll apply the policy from time of application.
Do let us know how it goes.
        Good luck!

    • Lydia says:

      Hi Admin,

I’m currently planning to apply for 485 while also preparing to apply for GTI EOI. I’m wondering if applying 485 would affect my GTI EOI application in any way? For example, if my 485 application is still pending, is there a risk that if apply GTI EOI, it will be refused? Or if I apply GTI EOI and 485 at similar times that the GTI EOI application will be refused?

      Thank you in advance!

      • admin says:

        Hi Lydia,
        Thanks for getting in touch.
The 485 should not impact your GTI EOI eligibility and can be processed simultaneously.
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

      Hi,
does anyone know that whose applicants submitted in July receive invitation recently?

      • E says:

Some applicants from July have already received the UID and visa.
But others including me have not heard from the department yet.
        Which sector you have applied?

        • nick says:

          Hi,
I am in resource sector, this is really frustrating.

        • shammie says:

Hey, I applied on 8th of July and still waiting. I am from cybersecurity. I don’t know anybody who received the UID who applied in July. Also, I don’t know anybody who received the UID who applied in cybersecurity recently. So very much uncertain about getting the UID since with my sector.

          Good luck everybody!

      • Pippi says:

Is anyone waiting, who applied in late June? Please comment here. I know several who heard from immi, who applied in early or mid June, but not late June?

    • kaur says:

      Hi
I am a Cybersecurity Graduate(Masters) and previously I have master’s in research back in 2014 (thesis published). Moreover, i have 8 years expereince as Assistant professor, back in my home country. Now enrolling in phD, Is there a chance of getting a GTI invitation if I apply now?
If it got rejected will it affect my GTI EOI in the future after completion of my PhD.

      • admin says:

        Hi Kaur,
It depends on your international recognition – if you are well published, cited etc. you might still be eligible now.
Legally there is also nothing preventing you from submitting a further EOI in the future as your situation improves.
Feel free to get in touch with us at [email protected] if you would like to discuss further.
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

I have applied 16th June 2020 and still waiting

    • Kabir Ahmad says:

      Hi Admin,

I applied for GTI in 17 July and not yet received any response. I applied for Data Scientist category, though now the sector has not been listed in the 10 sector category. Furthermore, during that time (July 2020), I had 12 more months to complete my PhD. During the application I did tell them, I am targeting to complete my PhD by December 2020 if everything suits me. However, I got full fee scholarship in November 2020 and hence planned to accomplish after consuming my full tenure.

Now, my PhD completion is due at August 15 and I am in line with the target. Furthermore, I am doing my PhD in public health domain focusing mother child health morbidities and disease burden. I have submitted three articles to the journals for publications. Recently, one of my paper got published on the obesity health issue of Bangladesh women. Earlier, back in my country in Bangladesh, I had track record of performing M&E research in the field of nutrition, Mother and Child health interventions, food security, and education.

In this situation, how should I update my application? Should I reapply or update my earlier submission. How can I update the earlier EOI?

It will be highly appreciated if you guide me in this regards.

      Thanks,
      Kabir

    • HL says:

      Hi admin,

I am a current onshore GTI visa applicant. I have lodged the submission using two email addresses.

Back to last June, I lodged my application through the email address 1

Because my situation changed (about to submit my PhD thesis in six months), I lodged another application, with quite different files uploaded, on 21st, last December, through email address 2

I was wondering if submissions with different email addresses were seen as different submissions, or these were seen as one cuz of the same passport number.
      Much appreciated.

    • Ullah says:

      Hi Admin,
I have some major updates in my GTI application such as 1) submitted Ph.D. thesis last month, 2) two recent articles including #1 soil science journal, 3) a casual job offers under ARC fund. Do you think I will submit an Updated Cover Letter with these documents? Plz, suggest. Thanks.

      • admin says:

        Hi Ullah,
Sure, we usually send an update when there is a beneficial change in circumstances.
        Good luck!

      Dear Admn
I have been granted 858 Visa. I would like to request you if you have any info about “First Entry” if failed due to current travel restriction due to Covid-19.
Is there any procedure to get waiver from first entry… Please guide

      • admin says:

        Hi AG,
Yes, there is a procedure to get a waiver for the first entry.
We haven’t published any blogs about this yet, but feel free to contact us at [email protected] if you’d like further information.
        Kind regards,

    • Rahman says:

Is Data Science removed from GTI Program target sectors ? Because I am not getting Data Science name in ” Direction No 89 ” list.

      • admin says:

        Hi Rahman,
Our position is that Data Scientists fall within to the broader “DigiTech” sector and in any case, enable some of the other sectors.
        Kind regards,

    • Gme says:

      Hi,

I am in my final year of PhD and likely to complete by Dec, 2021. Now the criteria of 6 months due for completion of course is replaced by SOON, would you mind to advice whether it is a good idea to lodge my EOI now or wait till June, 2021 so that i fulfill the 6 months due for completion of my course criteria. Thank You

      • admin says:

        Hi Gme,
This is what policy is: “To be eligible under the Global Talent Visa Program, PhD graduates must provide evidence that they have completed their studies in a priority sector within the last 3 years. From 20 January 2021, PhD students must provide evidence that they are close to completing their PhD, and that they have a prior record of exceptional and outstanding professional achievement. All PhD graduates and students must also provide evidence that their qualification meets Australian standards. They must provide evidence that shows they are exceptional and outstanding, and that their research has international significance.” Our position is that it should be scaled against your achievements and international recognition. If you are a NASA rocket scientist and are now doing your PhD you could apply even if you have 3 years til completion.
        Good luck!
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

    • AG says:

      Dear Admin
      Thanks for your kind response

      • Gme says:

Hi admin, Thanks a ton for the detailed information. I do have international published journals and conference papers backed by 8 years of work experience, scholarships and membership etc. I am waiting till June to get a formal letter from my university for the expected 6 months to complete my course. However, some of my friends has already applied way before in June or July,2020 while they are studying in their 2nd year of PhD. I am anxiously waiting for their outcome.

    • T.A.O says:

      Dear Admin,
I have submitted the EOI for the GTI program under the sector “Data Science” on 8 July and not yet received any response. Also, my wife has a Ph.D. in the same sector and I would like to support my application by submitting a cover letter showing my case. I already sent her degree and CV with the initial application. Do you think that will help? Also, please any suggestions on what do I have to write?

      Many thanks,
      TAA

      • admin says:

        Hi T.A.O,
The assessment for the GTI is for an individual applicant so her claims won’t strengthen yours.
If she does have some claims, you might consider making a separate expression of interest for her.
Feel free to get in touch with us at [email protected] if you’d like our assistance.
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

      • Shammie says:

        Hi T.A.O.

Sorry, I don’t have anything to support you. But if you don’t mind can you plplease update here if you get any sort of reponse? I also applied on 8th July but in cybersecurity (PhD).

        Thank you

    • Meraki says:

Hi! Thanks for sharing your cases here. Just wondering if anyone experienced sending another EOI because of change of circumstance? Was there any anecdote of such experience and still got an invite?

    • Thomas Ogunyebi says:

      Hi Hannan,

Thanks for creating this informative platform and it’s been really good to get insight into some of the GTI requirements.
I have one quick question, considering all other requirements are met, is a Digital Marketing Specialist eligible for GTI, if so under what target sector would this be?

    • N says:

      Hi,
Does anyone have idea about how many applicants left in June?

      • pippi says:

Im still waiting from June. What is your sector and when did you apply?

        • N says:

Hi, I applied in July from resource sector. Last week, I sent an email for enquiry but the autoreply said they are still processing applications from June, I have no idea why it is so slow.

    • Behzad says:

Also, I am still waiting from June! Data science sector and applied on 28 June.

    • Lily says:

      Hi Admin,
I am about to submit my visa application after receiving invitation code.
I have a question about including family members.
As I am offshore at the moment, and I am not sure when I will return to Australia, can I not include my husband now ?Instead can I include him later after I have been granted my visa?Main cause is that his english level is not good now.
      Thank you for your reply.
      Lily

      • admin says:

        Hi Lily,
        Congratulations on your invitation!
You can’t include your husband after grant (you would need to obtain a partner visa at that stage).
If he doesn’t meet English at this stage you can always just pay the second visa application charge – it’s cheaper than a Partner visa later on!
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

        • Lily says:

          Thanks for your reply.
Without a functional English, my husband has to pay for an English language fee as well, around $5000.
Then paying for the fee seems the best option at the moment.

          Regards
          Sheran

      • Ameen says:

        Hi Lily,

        Congratulations on your invitation.

May I know when did you submit your EOI, and did GTI request evidence to show that your qualification meets Australian standards?

        Thanks a lot

        • Lily says:

          Hi Ameen,
I submitted my EOI in June 2020 (MedTech), and received email requesting further evidence about two weeks ago. I submitted my response last Friday and got invitation this Monday .
          Good luck with your application.

          Lily

          • Ameen says:

Thanks a lot, Lily for your reply

May I know which type of evidence did you provide to prove that your PhD meets Australian standards?

Did you use the CEP (https://internationaleducation.gov.au/services-and-resources/services-for-organisations/Pages/Services-for-organisations.aspx) to assess your PhD qualification?

I am offshore and applied at the end of June.

            Thanks a lot

            Ameen

            • Lily says:

I completed my PhD in Australia, so I do not need to provide further evidence for that. What is asked from me is the importance, value, impact of my research, the publications, conferences, membership of scientific societies, job aspects, etc.
So you might need to seek help from others.
              Cheers
              Lily

            are you a recent graduate?
How many paper and citations you have? etc..

            • Lily says:

I don’t have a very good publication record.
PhD in Biomedical Science in April 2020, a total of 4 articles and 3 conferences publication, A total citation of 63. about to work as a post-doc (though not in Australia).

What can of evidence should I provide just a letter from supervisor is suffice to show I am progressing well and I will submit my thesis after 6 months. • Muhammad says:

      Hi all,

Thank you so much everyone here and Hannan for providing this highly informative platform. This platform helped me a lot during my hard times. Most of my friends submitted their EOI in May and got their invitations within few weeks. I applied on 7th June and didn’t receive any update for months. I was very disturbed but this platform realized me that I am not alone. Finally, I got my invitation on 22 Jan. I submitted my visa application on 5th Feb and today I got my visa. Thanks all for being there during my hard times and best of luck.

On a lighter note, I got my student visa on the 14th of March, which is my date of birth. This year 14th march is on the weekend so I received my global talent visa on 12th march. Australian immigration always gives me a special gift on my birthday.

      Cheers, and Stay Strong…..

What supportive documents have you included in your application, nominator form, publications, recommendation letters and other ?

          • Muhammad says:

            Hi Nash

I have a PhD Degree in Civil Engineering. My research focuses on structural and material engineering. During my PhD I developed some analytical models so I aligned my modeling work with data science and targeted the “Data Science” sector. After the latest update, infrastructure, resources, and circular economy sectors which are directly related to civil engineering are also the part of target sectors.

I have only provided the basic supporting documents such as publications, award certificates. I have not included any recommendation letters or nominator form in my EOI.

As mentioned before, I received my UID a few days ago. For the visa application, which documents should be submitted?

    • TR says:

      Hi Admin and other members,
I have Submitted EOI on 16 June 2020, but I did not receive any response yet. After submission, I have achieved different awarded like Editorial awarded, Casual academic position offer (still continue) and published another 2 journal article. My question is that should I need to submit all of the documents to the GTI officer for further assessment?
Since I did not receive an update from the GTI, therefore, I am wondering if I submit (to send an email attached) again all of the recent achievement to the GTI officer if they consider submitting newly instead of the previous submission date on 16 June.
Do you have any idea what can should I need to do in this situation. I am looking forward to hearing about your good suggestion.

Hi, what sector are you applying under?

      • admin says:

        Hi TR,
Based on what you’ve mentioned, I think it makes sense to provide a brief email with your further achievements.
Our position is if there has been an update to your circumstances you can contact the Department.
If not, then it is not worthwhile chasing up.
        Good luck!

      • admin says:

        Hi Albara,
Our understanding is that the Department applies the “recent graduate” time frame at time of application. In any case, your application is still pending so there would be no value in you withdrawing.
        Good luck,
        Hannan Tew

      • nick says:

        Hi, Dan,
Where did you see this? Have you received an email shows that they are processing July? The recent FOI shows that there are still 1/3 applicants in June haven’t been responded.

      • nick says:

I think some of the sectors are completed in June and move to July, some not.

    • Dan says:

Yes, Nick. An automatic reply someone posted on the forum. Can’t paste here. What is the recent FOI ? Are you still waiting?

    • tanchch says:

      Hello Hannan,
Is the Global Talent Visa still accepting EOI’s? Can i still submit the EOI for year 2020-2021 ?

      • admin says:

        Hi Tanchch,
Yes, the program is still open and given the interest in the program, you should apply as soon as possible if eligible.

    • Jay says:

      Hi, Admin,
Have you seen anyone receive invitation from July?

      • admin says:

        Hi Jay,
We’ve actually seen invitations from even 2021 applications.
However, almost all of our June invitations have now been processed and we’re seeing movement in July applications.
        Good luck!

    • Nash says:

      Hi Hannan,
If someone being rejected from DOHA as GTI EOI,
Is he eligible to apply other visa options such as 190, 189, 491 and other? I mean the rejection doesn’t affect the criteria of applying alternative options?
      Thank you

      • admin says:

        Hi Nash,
The EOI invitation application is not a visa refusal so it doesn’t trigger things like the s 48 bar and you can still go ahead and apply for another visa that you are eligible for. In fact, you can even make a GTI EOI concurrently with other applications.

    • Laith says:

Hi Hannan, First of all, thank you so much for the valuable info.

I have Submitted EOI on 20 July 2020, but I did not receive any response yet.

I’m a Ph.D. student at one of the Australian universities. I’m going to present my final seminar next June 2021 which considers the final milestone in the Ph.D. journey.
The question is should I provide a letter from my supervisor to the office that says I’m going to finish up in June, Or I wait until June then provide such a letter.

also, do you recommend I do my final seminar earlier so I can provide evidence?

I am looking forward to hearing about your good suggestion.

      • admin says:

        Hi Laith,
I’m assuming you didn’t provide a letter confirming that you were graduating in the next 6 months when you applied?
If so, then yes, I would recommend you now provide a letter from your education provider confirming your expected completion date in case your application gets assessed.
        Good luck!
        Hannan Tew

        • Laith says:

          Thank you for your reply,

I did provide a letter confirming that I’m graduating in the next 6 months when you applied, However, I did not receive any response yet.
I thought if I send a new one that shows that I’m going to graduate this June would support my application.

    • Nora says:

      Hi Hannan,
If I apply for both the 485 and GTI (UID received by my husband) visas simultaneously as my student visa is expiring this month, will the 485 affect the GTI visa and how can I avoid the second health check?

      Your advice is greatly appreciated.

      • admin says:

        Hi Nora,
Yes you can apply for both visas simultaneously (though it is not really required). You can apply for the Global Talent visa and in most cases the Department is granting a bridging visa to allow you to remain in Australia during processing. If not, then you can make a separate application for one.
Good luck, and feel free to email us at [email protected] if you’d like our assistance.
        Hannan Tew

    • Sam says:

      Dear admin

My 858 global talent visa has been granted today. In my visa grand notifications, it is mentioned that first entry arrived by 22nd march 2022. Given the covid conditions, if i unable to enter Australia by this date, will that be harm to my visa?

      Thanks

      • admin says:

        Hi Sam,
        First of all, congratulations!
Secondly, assuming COVID-19 travel restrictions remain in place, you can actually apply for a letter that permits you to enter beyond the first entry date.
Feel free to get in touch with us at [email protected] later this year if you restrictions are still in place.
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

    • MKP says:

      Hi Admin,
I submitted my EOI on 16 June 2020 and still waiting for the response. I have heard that many who submitted in June have got their responses from GTI. I have updated my EOI In Feb 2021 so is it causing a delay? I really appreciate if you can please suggest a way forward to enquire about that.
      Thanks

    • Bel says:

      Hi Hannan,

Is there anyone who submitted EOI on July and recently received invitation or communication for further information? I submitted my EOI on 28 July , but have not received a reply yet.

      Thanks

      Kind regards

      • admin says:

        Hi Bel,
Yes, we are seeing our July batch moving and have also seen some RFI’s come in.
Hopefully you’ll receive some correspondence for your own application in the next few weeks!
        Good luck!
        Hannan Tew

        • Bel says:

Thank you Hannan for your prompt reply.

          Kind regards

        • Polly says:

          Hi admin,

Have you seen anyone applied after July 13 2020 received an invitation or was asked for further information recently? I first applied on July 13 2020, then ended up sending another EOI on Sep 10 2020. Not sure if they would treat me as a July applicant or a September applicant. Any idea?

          Thanks,
          Polly

          • admin says:

            Hi Polly,
The Department specifically says not to submit two EOIs (in its acknowledgement email) as it will delay your application so that might be the case.
We’re not sure how the Department will time your application but hopefully you aren’t impacted adversely!
            Good luck!
            Hannan Tew

            • Polly says:

              Hi admin,

Thanks for your response. My first EOI was submitted by an agent which I then wasn’t sure if they have submitted the right documents for me when I actually knew there was a file size limit. At that point, I didn’t know I could update them on my information by email and there was no acknowledgement to say not to submit a second one. The acknowledgement came at a later stage. So I am not sure if my EOI would be affected.

              Cheers,
              Polly

    • pr says:

      Hi Hannan,

Looks like people applied in July who are in the last 6 months of Ph.D. are getting rejection eamils (info from exapt forum). Are Ph.D. students with no job offers are no longer eligible?

      Regards

      • admin says:

        Hi Pramod,
We’ve seen PhD students without a job offer get invitations so that in itself doesn’t make them ineligible.
Remember the international recognition assessment is wholistic.
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

    • Nash says:

      Hi Hanna,
Any updates for application been applied in December 2020? Is the process progressing in monthly basis. People talking about June and July currntly under process.
My EOI has been applied in 4 December, 2020? No response
PhD with 11 publication and industry experiences more than 7 years (Civil Engineering ), offshore.
      Hope for positive feedback.
      Thank you

      • admin says:

        Hi Nash,
Yes, the Department is trying to complete the applications on a first come first service basis though occasionally they process a later submitted application quickly (not much transparency though!).
Our July applications are seeing most movement.
        Good luck!
        Hannan Tew

    • Dushi says:

      Hi
I am Dushi a current PhD student within last 6 months of my PhD. I have submitted my EOI last week and I am planning to travel to my home country for an emergency. I would like to know whether being offshore will affect my assessment and if I get the invitation can I submit the visa application while I am offshore.
      Thanks

      • admin says:

        Hi Dushi,
The good news is that you can be onshore or offshore during EOI processing and lodgement of the Global Talent visa (if you get the invitation).
        Good luck,
        Hannan Tew

    • N says:

There are some final year phd students submitted in early July got rejection recently, they all have some publications and awards, it seems like they don’t like phd students to apply GTI.

      • Lee says:

I am in the same boat. I submitted my EOI last July and received the rejection email today. In the rejection email, the officer suggested me to submit a new EOI after I conferred my Ph.D. degree, however, this already happened last October, but I didn’t update this to the GTI team. I was expecting them to ask for more details and then provide all the updates at the same time, but unfortunately, they rejected my EOI straightforward.

Hi Hannan, do you have any comments on this? Plus, is it possible to get a further review by replying to the rejection email with all the updates? Many thanks!

        • admin says:

          Hi Lee,
It’s not usually the case that a case officer writes a personalised rejection (suggesting you submit a new EOI) but we’re happy to look into this for you.
In any case, there is no review process for a rejected EOI (you have to submit a new one).
Feel free to flick us an email at [email protected] if you’d like to discuss further.
          Kind regards,
          Hannan Tew

    • Melina says:

I got rejected today, Ph.D. recent graduate, (onshore), 15 publications, 4 conference papers, MedTech, no job

      • Qs says:

Sorry to hear that. When did you submitted the EOI?

      • AH says:

        Hi Hannan,

I am a July applicant. Submitted my PhD thesis last November, and all course requirements were completed recently. I also got a rejection email recently saying I do not meet the criteria solely on Masters degree. However, they also mentioned that if I have completed PhD by this time, I should provide evidence within 14 days to be considered under the criteria for PhD graduates, or submit new Eoi after Phd completion. It confused me whether they again see a rejected Eoi?
I now provided them a completion letter and transcript. Don’t know what will happen.

        • admin says:

          Hi AH,
We haven’t seen this kind of partial refusal before.
Feel free to shoot us an email at [email protected] with the correspondence and we can see if we can help.
          Kind regards,
          Hannan Tew

    • Thivash says:

Good day Admin, please advise the benefits of using an agent like yourselves, for the EOI. Also you do think the PhD students that are being declined, are not putting enough evidences in their EOI and were do you think Hannan Tew can assist to improve your EOI.

      • admin says:

        Hi Thivash,
We believe we can put together the best possible application (with sufficient information and addressing the relevant criteria).
In that sense, we believe we can assist an individual to improve their EOI prospects, though the candidate still needs to meet the criteria.
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

    • Jay says:

      Hi, Hannan,
Have you seen any phd students closing to graduation received invitation from July recently? I heard many of them got rejection this week. No matter how excellent they are, some of them have excellent profile and postdoctoral offer and got rejection. Do you have any idea about this?
      Thank you

      • admin says:

        Hi Jay,
Yes, we’ve recently had a PhD candidate (still 2 years from completion) get his invitation because he had international recognition outside of his PhD.
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

        • Arya says:

          Hi Hannan,

Could you please advise that what the international recognition outside the PhD refers to? Do you mean publications and awards?

    • AC says:

      Hi Admin,

Thank you for creating this valuable information changing broad. I’ve been tracing the progress via this discussion broad since I submitted EOI last July and just received the invitation yesterday( Offshore, Energy and Mining Engineering sector). However, I understand this does not guarantee a visa granted. I’m concerned that I don’t have a glorious publication and award history might be a problem in “Record of Achievements”. Would other forms of evidence (i.e. participation in grant projects) be OK to use in filling this blank?

      Best regards,

      • Sponge says:

        Hi Hannah,
Would you kindly share what are the specific international recognitions this PhD candidate present? Like publications on Nature, Science Journals etc.?

      • admin says:

        Hi AC,
Congratulations on your invitation! What evidences your record of achievement will depend on your specifics, so feel free to email us at [email protected] to discuss.
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

    • mad says:

      Hi Admin,
Many thanks for providing this platform.
I am a Ph.D. student, in the fifth semester and may complete my program in the next 2 years, Can I apply for a Global Talent visa? Also, 3 years ago I got a full scholarship Ph.D. program from an Australian university, but the visa process took nearly 20 months and I withdraw my visa application.

      • admin says:

        Hi mad,
You don’t necessarily require PhD to show international recognition if your other achievement are significant enough (for example, we recently assisted a candidate who was in their first year of their Australian PhD).
That is, if you were Elon Musk studying a PhD, you’d still have international recognition regardless of whether you were in the first year of your PhD.
Feel free to shoot us an email at [email protected] if you want to discuss your options.
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

      • Polly says:

        Hi Bel,

There is indeed not much transparency in the assessment. When did you submit your EOI? I submitted on July 13, 2020 under Medtech and haven’t received any response yet. Thanks.

        Cheers,
        Polly

        • Crax says:

      • admin says:

In addition to having claims, there is an aspect on how to put across claims.

When you submit your EOI in August? And what’s the reason for rejection?

    • N says:

Does anyone from mid July in energy sector heard anything?

    • Rajib says:

Hi Bel, sorry to hear about the EOI rejection. I guess the reason is that you are more than 6 months away from your PhD completion.

      • Omar says:

        Hi Rajib,

Did you got UID from GTI team? When did you submit your EOI?
        Regards

        • Rajib says:

Hi Omar, I’ve not got any response yet. I submitted my EOI on 14 August 2020. What about you? Have you got any outcome?

          Cheers

          • Omar says:

            Hi Rajib,

Thank you for letting know. I am still waiting for the outcome of my EOI. I submitted my EOI on 08 July 2020.

      Dear Hannan,
Could you suggest to me when should I need to pay the SVA charge in case of dependent have not functional english?
      Best
      Rs

      • admin says:

        Hi RS,
The Department will write to you requesting the functional English of your spouse when they begin processing your application. At that time you should notify them that you would like to pay the second VAC instead and they will provide the necessary instructions.
        Good luck!
        Hannan Tew

      Thank you so much, Hannan.

    • Hani says:

      Dear Admin,

I have already submitted my EOI few months ago and was employed on that time. Now, I am gonna fill in the form 1000 and I found that I have to provide my current annual salary. However, I have been unemployed for last 2 months and I am gonna join another company next month. May I use my offered salary for the current annual salary or I should provide the salary that I have earned within the last 12 months (I had income for only 10 months).

I would be grateful if you could let me know how I should calculate the current annual salary?

      • admin says:

        Hi Hani,
You generally need to provide your current salary for that question (e.g. if you have no salary, it would be zero).
There is a separate question about what you can expect to earn.
        Good luck
        Hannan Tew

        • Hani says:

          Thank you for your reply.
So I will inform my nominator about this and will ask him to include the new annual salary in the form 1000.

    • DONE says:

Energy and Mining sector, submitted end of July 2020, still waiting. Please share any updates.

    • Jay says:

      Hi, Hannan,
Here is a new FOI, https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/foi/files/2021/fa-210201362-document-released.PDF, does it mean phd within six month will not be invited?

      • admin says:

        Hi Jay,
I assume that PhDs’ within 6 months are considered to be “studying” rather than unemployed.
We’ve helped many PhD candidates within that period obtain EOIs.
What is clear though, is that a candidate should have employment once they’ve completed their study.
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

    • Polly says:

      Hi all,

I tried to update the department my recent position change (a promotion with a significant increase in my pay) using my original EOI application email and didn’t receive any automated reply, which happened once before. I sent updates before using the same email and it worked fine. For this update, I tried using a different email, and got an automated response. This seems a bit weird. Does that mean my original email somehow got blocked or got to their junk email? Anyone with similar experience or have any insights?

      Thanks,
      Polly

      • Dan says:

        Hi Polly,
Every time I sent an update, I received an automatic reply.
Waiting for the invitation is very distressing. However, I think if you have not received a rejection, you are still in the race. If the new update is not significant, I think you can skip it as too many updates may cause frustrations.
My EOI was on 30 June, and I just received the invitation last week even when their auto reply said they were processing July EOI. It was indeed stressful waiting for the decision, but be patient and hope you will receive a positive outcome soon.
        G’luck.

        • Polly says:

          Hi Dan,

Thanks for the reply and congratulations on your invitation. The waiting is indeed quite frustrating and stressful. I sent three updates in total I think. Each time I considered important. But now I don’t receive the automatic reply from my original email makes me feel anxious. Not sure what’s going on with my EOI. Hopefully hear some news soon.

          Cheers,
          Polly

      Hi,
I submitted my EOI on 24th March under financial services. I have been in this sector for more than three years as a finance strategist. Submitted my EOI with couple of reference letters, nomination form, cover letter, CV and future job offer showing FWHIT. What are the possible chances of receiving an invitation with this?
      Thanks,

Hard to say with that information as it depends on your circumstances, but feel free to shoot us an email at [email protected] if you’d like to discuss.

      Dear all here
Is there any one can help in finding a nominator in the field of Microbiology (research and teaching)
      Thank you

      • Aarjoo says:

Thanks Hannan for your reply. If we meet the set criterias, do we get considered? Financial services is in the target sector and income threshold is high and there are couple of awards that we collectively received as a company. I’m currently self employed with the same company.
        Thanks

        • admin says:

          Hi Aarjoo,
It’s not sufficient that you meet the minimum criteria unfortunately, as there is a lot of discretion as to what “international recognition is”. In practice, the case officer is assessing hundreds of applications so you have to make yours stand up with as much talent as possible.
Feel free to get in touch with us at [email protected] for further information.
          Kind regards,

    • AS says:

I submitted EOI on 6 September 2020, and EOI rejected on 10 April 2021.

      Sector: MedTech

Reason of Rejection: PhD Completion is compulsory to be considered since this condition came into effect after 20 Jan 2021.

Also, it was mentioned in the E-mail that it applies to all EOIs including those submitted prior to this date. Home Affairs recommended me to re-apply after finishing PhD because I had applied while I was in 2nd year of my PhD in Sydney.

      Good Luck to you all!

      • VA says:

        Hey AS,

Did the department specifically mention that “PhD Completion is compulsory to be considered since this condition came into effect after 20 Jan 2021.”?

        • Alex says:

          Hi VA,
Could you pls share your profile?

        • admin says:

          Hi VA,
We have actually assisted a PhD candidate in their first year (though they had close to 100 publications and were very highly cited).
I think the point to note is that you need to demonstrate “international recognition” – you can obviously get a GTI invite without a PhD or even first year PhD if you have that international recognition (e.g. through previous work or research). Simply being a PhD graduate (or one graduating in 6 months) is not sufficient for the purposes of the program.
          Good luck!
          Kind regards,
          Hannan Tew

Yes, The department mentioned that PhD Completion is now compulsory. This condition came into effect on 20 Jan 2021, but it was mentioned in the email that it applies to all the EOIs including those submitted prior to that date (written in bold). Also, at the bottom of the email, they asked me to re-apply when I have completed my PhD. Although I had international recognition of my work and been an invited speaker in over 10 different countries, and ticked all the boxes of global recognition. However, my application was turned down solely because of the condition that was introduced on 20 Jan 2021.
In exceptional circumstances, they might accept EOIs of PhD students (not graduates) as Admin mentioned, but I really doubt that though. Admin, did you receive UID for a PhD student (first year) in 2021?

    • Omar says:

      Hi Hannam Tew,

Please how to get a bridging Visa after I submited my application for my 858 visa?
      Regards

      • admin says:

        Hi Omar,
If you didn’t get it granted automatically (and assuming you are in Australia) you can apply though your Immi Account.
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

      Hi,

I have changed my job from my previous university in Australia to another university in Australia, and I can no longer log into my previous work email. However, the contact email address of my GTI application is my previous work email.

I have sent an email to [email protected] before my previous work email expires to change my contact email. Is it enough for the change of my contact email? Or I need to do more to change the contact email?

      Thanks a lot.

      • admin says:

        Hi Taotao,
There’s no formal way to update an EOI address details so the best way is probably what you did (send them an email from the original address, make reference to your passport and submission date, and then subsequently update them of your new email address). If you want to do the formal process we use for updating visa applications you can try using Form 929 but it might be overkill: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/form-listing/forms/929.pdf
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

    • BB says:

      Hi Hannan,
I am a third year phd student with 40+ publication with around 650+ citations. Most of my publication are from before phd. I am a review editor for a reputed journal in my field and have reviewed many journal articles from many reputed journals and was offered phd scholarship from three different Australian Universities before i chose to start my studies at current university. I have a couples of research grants as well. However, at this stage it is highly unlikely that i will submit my thesis within 6 months. Have you helped anyone else with similar profile to get unique identification number for global talent visa. What are my prospects? Thank you very much

      • admin says:

        Hi BB,
You do have a better argument than most that you have international recognition prior to your PhD.
Ultimately, your application is stronger when you have completed your PhD.
Feel free to contact us at [email protected] if you’d like an assessment.
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

    • Ito says:

      Hi Admin,
Can someone who has already applied for the Distinguished talent visa since Dec 2020 apply for the GTI while waiting for the Distinguished talent visa outcome. Lecturer with many Q1 journals and awards from reputable organisations.
This is because the Distinguished talent visa is very competitive with only 200 placements compared to the GTI.

      • admin says:

        Hi Ito,
If eligible, I’d recommend submitting your EOI application.
If you get an invite, you can see if you can notify the Department to expedite your existing visa application by connecting it with your unique identifying number.
        Good luck!
        Hannan Tew

    • BB says:

      Thanks Admin for your advice.

    • Sam says:

      Dear Hannan,
I just received a rejection for my EOI that I submitted last year on August. The decision is really surprised me as I think my profile is really strong compared to other accepted candidates especially in my field. I have graduated with Phd recently, conferred on July 2020 from an energy sector from Australia. I have 30 Publications, 502 citations, H index = 13, i10 index = 15. Presented conference papers in various international conferences, and reviewed more than 23 international journals papers and more than 5 international conferences papers in my field. Also, I have a prospective job offer. Currently, I work as a Postgraduate student supervisor at for An Australian University.
I really don’t understand how the assessed my application. I know a person got invitation in my University and same department with 3 or 4 publications only and less than 40 citations.

      • Rajib says:

Hi Sam, it is really surprising. You have a very strong academic profile. I could not not see any obvious reason.
Are you currently working as a post-doc/lecturer? Could you let us know your salary please?

        Regards

        • ABB says:

          Sorry to hear that.
          Your profile is very strong

Is this person applied by himself or through an agent

          Thanks a lot

      • admin says:

        Hi Sam,
        Sorry to hear that.
It’s hard to say, but perhaps it was a lack of supporting documentation or clear explanation as to how you meet the criteria?
We’d need to review your file to provide further advice, but feel free to contact us at [email protected] if you’d like to discuss.

    • Mira says:

      Hi Admin,

I submitted my EOI in August 2020 and, at that time, my nominator (who is my principal supervisor) provided me with a letter confirming that I would finish my Phd in February (six months from EOI submission). However, due to COVID restrictions, my research was significantly delayed and I had to request an extension until August 2021. Should I send GTI an email to say that my PhD completion has been delayed or it is better just to wait for their response? My biggest concern is having to submit a letter of completion in case I get a UID, as it has been about 8 months since my submission and I have seen many people getting UIDs in this interval.
      Appreciate your advice.

      • admin says:

        Hi Mira,
Tentatively, I think it would be okay to provide an updated letter explaining the reason for the submission delay.
In any case, the most important aspect of your application is international recognition. That 6 months to submission date is really only important to exempt you from FWHIT.
        Good luck!
        Hannan Tew

    • DD says:

      Hello,
I am an experienced professional based out of Europe & launched my EOI as an offshore candidate on 1st April 2021. I received today (in 2 weeks) email asking me to apply for the visa.
Firstly, can you tell me whats the window period to travel & activate the PR once you receive the visa?

Secondly, I will be interested to avail professional services to lodge my visa application. So how can we discuss the modalities (level of support, fee etc.)

      Thanks

      • admin says:

        Hi DD,
        First of all, congratulations.
Your visa once obtained will ordinarily have a 12 month first entry date. This can however, be extended.
The fees for our services are set out on this blog, but feel free to contact us at [email protected] if you’d like to discuss further.
        Kind regards,

      Hi Hannan Tew,
I have some doubts on my visa application.
I lodged my 858 visa application one month ago, and now I am required to pay the second instalment of the Visa Application Charge as my husband do not have a functional english .
The weird thing about my application is that in the immi system, the estimated processing time for my visa has changed from 75-90 days to 17-20 months.
Has anyone noticed same changes for their applications? What does this mean?
      Thank you for your time.

      • admin says:

        Hi Lily,
We’ve seen the extended processing time listed for our pending applications too.
It could be that it’s just a system error (hopefully) but we’ll know more as our pending applications get processed.
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

        • PJ says:

I submitted my application on 29 March and noticed the same thing. The expected processing time in the immi tool started showing as 18-20 months. However, my application got processed in exactly 3 weeks and I got the grant this morning (19 April).

      • RM says:

        Hi Lily,
Have you paid the second installment of visa application charge (SVAC). I am in the same situation, I replied to the email saying we have decided to pay for the SVAC that I was asked s56 more information required for my partner’s English Language evidence. I am not sure which email address should I reply to them regarding the s56 form? I also uploaded letter regarding statement of confirmation to pay the SVAC.
        RM

        • Lily says:

          I did three things:
a reply email saying the will to pay the fee to the email address asking for the english result.
a formal letter uploaded to the immi system saying the will to pay the fee.
click the confirm button in the immi saying that i have provided requested information
After 9 working days (roughly 2 weeks due to the Easter holiday), i received the invoice to pay the fee.
          Hope it helps.

    • Lily says:

      Okay, I see.
      Thanks for your reply.
Let’s hope it is the system getting messed up then.

      Kind regards

      Hi guys,

I have got the UID to apply for the GTI. I am about to submit my application, but I am a bit confused now. After reading the step-by-step instructions from the Department, we are asked to provide more information from the nominator (relevant supporting documents for form 1000, a statement by your nominator that supports your claims, information provided by your nominator that you have the ability to establish in Australia). Did your nominator provide all these above-mentioned statements? What else information/material did you require from your nominator? Thank you in advance for your help.

    • Tao says:

      Hi Hannan Tew,

I submitted my GTI application (Data Science) on 14 September of 2020, and I am worried about whether I can get the UID.

      My basic information.

      1. Submitted my Ph.D. thesis in July of 2020 and got my Ph.D. degree in Nov of 2020.
      2. Published several Top-tier conferences and Journal papers (three as the first author).
      2. Got an industry postdoc offer at one University in July of 2020. (Salary. 8.9w + 17% super, fixed 2 years contract).
      3. Got an ARC postdoc research fellow offer at another University in Mar of 2021. (Salary. 9.5w + 17% super, fixed 2 years contract).

Do I have a high possibility to be granted a UID?

      Many thanks.

      • admin says:

        Hi Tao,
        Sure – there’s a possibility.
We’d need more info to determine, but if you feel you haven’t provided full evidence of your international recognition you should do so before a decision is made.
Feel free to contact us at [email protected] if you’d like us to assess and see how we can help.
        Kind regards,

      Hi Hannan,
I would like to seek your advise
I have recently achieved Project Management Professional (PMP), and also have been promoted to higher position by my employer from Civil Engineer to Sr. Engineer. Noting that I have applied using my PhD qualification.
Is it worth to communicate with Department of home Affairs updating them my recent achievements and can be an additional value to my application?

      Thank you

      • admin says:

        Hi NH,
Absolutely, you should update the Department with your increased salary and role details.
Remember that international recognition is holistic so don’t limit yourself to just academia if you have employment experience (in fact you should have both).
        Kind regards,
        Hannan Tew

      Dear Hannan and other friends
Department has asked to provide evidence of English or pay for the second VAC. We have decided to pay the second installment of visa application charge (SVAC). I alao replied to the email saying we want to pay for the SVAC. I am not sure which email address should I reply to them regarding the s56 request for more information? I also uploaded letter regarding statement of confirmation to pay the SVAC. Do I need to confirm that I have provided the information as requested in the immi account as appears. Can anyone advise me what should I do? Have anyone gone this through stage, your suggestions would be helpful to me.

      • admin says:

        Hi SK,
As long as you upload the letter confirming you want to pay the VAC and click the “provided all documents” after you’ve provided everything else, the Department will assess accordingly.
        Good luck,
        Hannan Tew

    • Roc says:

      Hi, Admin,

Could I ask some advise from you?

I worked as a researcher (postdoc.) in a university of Australia and lodged a GTI EOI application in early October, 2020. However, I resigned from the university last year and I currently hold bridging visa A. As my Ph. D. degree was obtained 5 years ago, the only way for me seemed to be the high salary.

Fortunately, I find a job which offers me $170,000 annually. I sent an email with the formal contract to the GTI official address. The automatic reply indicated they were still handling the EOI applications in July 2020. Could I ask if any further action I can take to benefit the processing? For example, do you think it is helpful for me to apply for a 482 visa and attend the work first?

      • admin says:

        Hi Roc,
From the GTI point the 482 is not essential, but it is certainly recommended that you proceed with that simultaneously ensure you have a visa to fall back on.
        Good luck!
        Hannan Tew

    • AJ says:

EOI Aug 21st 2020. Got rejection email yesterday.
MedTech, couple of first and second author papers, have been working in research teams in Europe, US and here. Got a couple of awards, Australian and European. PhD thesis currently under external examination. Not sure what else they want and highly unsure if they considered the additional information I provided via email after lodging EOI. Very frustrating.

    • Usman says:

      Hi Hannan,
I applied for GTI visa in late July 2020. Got the below reply on 23rd April. I am nearing the completion of my Ph.D. in Water Resources from Australia. BSc Civil Engineer, Msc Hydraulics Engineering 8 years working experience with International Consultants in water and dam sectors. 10 publications in international journals and conferences. Working as an academic tutor for the last 3.5 years at Australian University. Linked my profile with the Agriculture sector. Provided additional documents in the first week of April 2021.
Does my profile seem appropriate for GTI visa in any sector? Can I reapply after the completion of my Ph.D. degree? Any guidance will be appreciated.

      would be an asset to the Australian community;
      would have no difficulty in obtaining employment in Australia, or becoming established independently in Australia in the target sector;

        Hi Rajib,

Congratulations on your invitation and thanks for sharing. I applied on July 13 under Medtech as well and update them a few times about my situation. Haven’t heard anything from the department yet. Do you know if they already progress to August asides from your EOI? Last time I updated them, the automatic reply still said they are processing July applications. Thanks.

        Cheers,
        Polly

        • Rajib says:

Hi Polly, thanks. I updated the department 2 times while waiting. I know few other August’20 applicants (different sectors, recent PhD+postdoc) got their UID as well. July’20 applicants are still getting their outcomes though. I hope you will get yours soon.

          Best,

      Hi Hannan,

I want to ask you a question about EOI. In the online form, stated that we can write 300-750 characters to show we are internationally recognized. How about if we write around 700 words instead of characters. will it affect our applications in terms of time processing or the decision?

      Thanks a lot

          Hi Hannan Tew,

I submitted my application for a global Talent Visa after getting invitation. Then Ivapplied for bridging Visa A and it was granted. After that I applied again for bridging Visa A to remove the work limitation but it was refused.

Does this have effect on my GTI visa or for future visas?

          Regards

          • admin says:
